Overview
Melanotan II is a synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It stimulates melanin production in the skin, producing a tan without UV exposure, while also having effects on libido and appetite.
Mechanism of Action
Melanotan II non-selectively activates melanocortin receptors (MC1R through MC5R). MC1R activation stimulates melanin synthesis in melanocytes. MC3R and MC4R activation produces its aphrodisiac and appetite-suppressing effects.
